Crown Cake!

I have no idea where I found this recipe.  I actually think it came with the pan I bought many moons ago, but either way, its a fantastic recipe.  The recipe came with very little instructions, so you basically had to figure it out as you went along.   This is where my culinary school training came into play.  They gave the ingredients and the method, so knowing the methods (Creaming Warming, etc) I was able to create this great cake.

Now, as most of you know, I am not a huge cake fan, so I added glaze and played with the citrus addition.  I am a huge fan of Orange Chocolate, so naturally I went that route.  However, once you see how easy this cake is to make, you will be whipping this up for the next holiday.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup / 7 1/2 Ounces / 211 Grams - Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup / 4 Ounces / 113 Grams - Butter (Softened)
  • 2 Eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla (**optional - Orange Zest with Juice)
  • 1 1/2 Cups / 7 3/8 Ounces / 211 Grams - AP Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Cup / 4 Ounces - Milk
  • 1/4 Cup / 2 Ounces - Chocolate Syrup
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Soda

Directions:

  • Heat oven 325.
  • Grease Bundt pan. (**Do not flour the pan, it makes the chocolate look matte.)
  • In a mixer, cream together butter and sugar till light and fluffy.  This takes a few minutes.
  • While the butter and sugar creams, measure out the flour, baking powder, salt.  In separate measuring cup measure out the Chocolate Syrup and Baking Soda.
  • Add eggs one at a time.
  • Add vanilla (you can combine the eggs and vanilla).  Mix well after each egg.
  • Add flour mixture and milk alternating starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  • In a small bowl spoon a 1/4 of the cake batter with the Chocolate Syrup and mix together to make a chocolate batter cake.  Pour into the bundt pan.
  • Pour the remaining cake batter over the chocolate batter.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes (till cake tester comes out clean)
  • Add either Vanilla, Chocolate or Orange Glaze (or a combination of the two)
Butter, Sugar, Eggs and Vanilla Creamed together.
